Svalbard Circumnavigation kayaking expedition…
Polar expedition “Svalbard Circumnavigation” is at the honours under Arctic05. This kayaking expedition is currently undergoing since the 17th of June 08. Both Alon Ohad & Tim Starr are attempting with their kayaks the first ever circumnavigation of the Svalbard archipelago (74° to 81° North latitude): Spitsbergen, Nordaustlandet (see below photo), Edgeøya and a number of smaller islands (view Svalbard’s below map). The midnight sun will allow the team to paddle during 10 weeks at an average of 18 hours per day during their 1800 kilometers tour.

The conditions are certainly harsch: frozen water, currents, winds, icebergs, Polar bears, walruses, 24h daylight…Being completely self supported their main concern is running low on food…
