Princess Elisabeth inauguration, special Tv programs on the 15/02!
Belgium has a long « Polar tradition » with many known explorers. This 15th of February 09 will be seen as the official inauguration of « Belgian Polar station Princess Elisabeth » located upon the Utsteinen nunatak in Maud Land in the East of Antarctica.
This research station will give unprecedented visibility to Belgium’s commitment to fight against climate change. This project is a major first as the only « zero emission Polar base» operating entirely on renewable energies. Besides, we know Antarctica constitutes an irreplaceable archive of the planet’s climatic history. There, scientists will contribute to the worldwide understanding of climate change.
More then ever, we must all think how we can act at home to preserve our planet!
Special Tv programs on this 15th of February 09 around the inauguration of Belgian Polar station Princess Elisabeth:
– at 8:10 PM on La Une, “Edition spéciale”: La Une will show a half-hour documentary on the inauguration of the Princess Elisabeth Station.
– at 9:00 PM on Canvas +, “Armand Pien interviewt” and “De Prinses Elisabeth basis: een missie op Antarctica”: Canvas + will rebroadcast a historic interview of Gaston de Gerlache from 1957 when he was leaving for an expedition in Antarctica during the International Geophysical Year. The interview will be followed by a rebroadcast of the documentary “De Prinses Elisabeth basis: een missie op Antarctica”.
