Icelandic bird guide…you will love it!
BOOK OF THE MONTH=> ICELANDIC BIRD GUIDE – JOHANN OLI HILMARSSON – IDUNN, REYKJAVIK – 2000 – 193p.
This book is an excellent identification guide to Icelandic birds one will observe during his stay in this country. It has become one of my favourite books to read before going to sleep. It convenes perfectly to anyone who wants to learn to identify birds, even to bird-watchers.
It’s certainly a reference to discover all birds characteristics: habitats & topography, feathers, behaviour, breeding areas, duration of stay, … More than 20 pages are covering (see as from page 137) the eggs & nest of Icelandic breeding birds…This is particularly instructive for specialists.
On page 182, you will discover a multilingual bird index…well thought & always interesting. Did you know the lovely “Puffin” (on the book cover with its orange bill) is called in French the “Macareux moine”, in Finnish “Lunni”, in German “Papageitaucher” & in Latin “Fratercula arctica” (the little brother of the Arctic)…etc. Commonly, he’s called the “Perroquet des mers (Parrot fish)”.
Over 500 lovely pictures will illustrate all bird species…a real pleasure!
I recommend this guide for your trips to the Atlantic North & to any Polar regions…
In other words, it’s a “must have” which will be well appreciated by nature lovers!
