Arctic sea ice at second-lowest level ever…
The US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) says the ice covered 4,5 million sq km (1,7 million sq miles) at its lowest point on 12 September. Last year’s minimum was 4,1 million sq km (1,6 million sq miles).
It’s stated: “…The Arctic sea ice cover appears to have reached its minimum extent for the year, the second-lowest extent recorded since the dawn of the satellite era. While above the record minimum set on September 16, 2007, this year further reinforces the strong negative trend in summertime ice extent observed over the past thirty years… further info under NSIDC official website >> “
Martin Sommerkorn, WWF International Arctic Programme’s Senior Climate Change Advisor underlines “the Arctic is experiencing the continuation of an accelerated declining trend…” with impact on all Arctic wildlife, Polar bears, traditional livelihoods…even more it’s affecting the all planet as the “Arctic is a key factor in stabilising the global climate”.
