In the Wake of the Belgica: the Antarctica Sail Expedition

Dixie Dansercoer and his crew has set sail from Antwerp in Belgium on this 15th of September 07 to Antarctica to commemorate the 110th Anniversary of the original expedition lead by Andrien de Gerlache de Gomery (1897 – 1899).

16th of September 07: stop at Nieuwpoort – Belgium to celebrate departure.

“…Their wish is to undertake this venture (September 07 – January 08) in order to contribute:

=> to the celebration of Belgium’s involvement in Antarctic matters on the whole and more specifically the inauguration of the new Belgian scientific Princess Elisabeth;

=> to public awareness to the fragile nature of Antarctica as the prime barometer of our Globe’s health;

=> to underline the importance of history with a re-enactment of Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery’s exploit with the Belgica…”
