Expo on the Arctic in March 07 – Brussels

Arctic and European Arctic research here in Brussels during March. At the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences, from 6 March until 19 March, the public can be informed about the Arctic’s extraordinary climate at the exhibition which is called “DAMOCLES – the Arctic’s climate future hanging by a thread?”.

Attractive images and animations will provide an engaging display about the Arctic – as it has been, as it is now, and how it might soon be if society cannot slow and reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases, which are responsible for global warming. The exhibition showcases the work of European researchers working in DAMOCLES, a vast research project funded by the European Union which aims to understand the state of the changing Arctic climate better by monitoring changes in atmosphere, ocean and sea-ice in particular. It is expected that DAMOCLES’s work will improve Europe’s capacity to know if and when major climatic changes in the Arctic are likely to take place, thus improving Europe’s capacity to adapt as necessary.
