Pay a visit to the ghost town of Pyramiden…
It’s really worth a visit…to walk in this arctic mining Russian settlement abandoned since the late 1990’s.
Pyramiden is located in Svalbard (at the level of Billefjorden) & is named for the pyramid-shaped mountain adjacent to the town. Founded by Swedish in 1910, then baught by the Russians in 1926 to be afterwards taken over by Trust Arktikugol in 1931.
Guide Tours are organized…inform yourself at the tourism office of Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Please respect the area & take really care of polar bears which can come from anywhere!
