“The ultimate expedition for Borge and Mike. An expedition that has never been attempted before now, and one that will not be possible to do in the future because of the fragile environmental conditions.

Mike and Borge are a unique team, both with years of experience, knowledge, strength and the determination to make this feat possible.

The departure is set for the middle of January 2006 from the northern most point of Russia, Cape Artichesky. Mike and Borge will start from land and with skis and sledges will arrive on the floating ice cap. Once on the ice cap they will pull their sledges laden with 180kgs each over the 1000kms of glacial terrain.

They predict it’ll take 67 days to arrive at the North Pole. 67 days of battling against the harsh Arctic climates, in temperatures as low as –40°C, and a wind chill factor of even lower!

Mike and Borge will be traveling during the Arctic winter meaning that there will be no daylight during the expedition. They aim to reach the North Pole before the sun rises over the horizon. The lack of light will make navigation more difficult and put a lot of mental stress on them to find the fastest and safest route to the North Pole. At these temperatures the GPS freezes and the compass cannot be used. Mike and Borge will need to rely on their past experiences to make it safely to the North Pole.

Another challenge in the darkness is that the polar bears will be much closer before being sighted. Mike and Borge must stay on their guard at all times.

Each day will be a careful test for survival for Mike and Borge. Their equipment has been especially designed and tested to withstand the harsh Arctic conditions. In each domain a group of professionals have undertaken the challenge to provide Mike and Borge with specialised equipment.
